BORDER
CROSSINGS
BORDER CROSSINGS is a fantasy allegory for the globalization
era. Firefly and Perdido Street Station
in a nautical, steam-punk mash-up. A salvage submarine crew's
pursuit of the last human redefines the meaning of free society.
DUE
NORTH
10-page web comic with illustrator Lauren Pettapiece.
Lucas North is the human nucleus of all existence. Other people's
identities diverge in alternate realities depending on the
choices they made, but Lucas always remains consistent. Uniquely
perceptive, he is aware of infinite possible outcomes but
can't find a living example of the American Dream. It seems
a dead betrayal to others, but Lucas is still convinced it
exists. DUE NORTH is a non-linear traveler's tale of the modern
day bard, examining American culture through adventure, storytelling
and the Socratic method.
FIVES
A photography comic book based on a series of nightmares I
experienced in 2001, Fives is about a pretentious
writer struggling with a recent break-up by fantasizing about
a movie script idea he has. Originally this book was meant
to be 64 pages long, but some of the principle actors in the
project became unavailable when they moved to different cities.
The photography was executed by Amber Porter. She and I shared
the graphic design duties.
